Yang Yunqi was born in 1954. Born in Nanchong, Sichuan, he is a military painter. I am currently a member of the Chinese Artists Association, a member of the Beijing Artists Association, a national senior artist, and an executive director of the Chengdu Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute. In 2021, I joined the Chinese Academy of Calligraphy and Painting as an academician and am a people's artist with both moral and artistic excellence.

In recent years, Yang Yunqi has integrated the charm of traditional Chinese painting with the color composition of Western painting. He pursues a heavy emphasis on ink and color, highlighting the visual impact of colors. This creative concept has always prompted him to trek on the road of exploring the profound artistic conception of Chinese landscape painting. He strives to pursue a spiritual atmosphere and never gives up after going through hardships.

The studio of military painter Mr. Yang Yunqi is hidden here. He just returned from collecting wind in Xizang and went downstairs with an umbrella and two umbrellas to greet a group of visitors coming in the bleak autumn rain. The first time I saw him was in the summer at an art exhibition in Shuchangxuan, Chengdu. He is not tall, but he is sturdy and robust. It seems that he doesn't like to laugh or talk, and the seriousness and composure of his life in the military are highlighted on his face, with no trace of joy or anger. But as the interview delved deeper, it was discovered that these initial impressions were only his surface appearance. Through appearances, Yang Yunqi's heart is often filled with childlike idealistic fantasies. He is easy-going and talkative, honest and interesting. His studio is colorful and chaotic, and the passionate and carefree nature of his creations can be seen everywhere. He should be a painter who freely immerses himself in creation. On the living room wall, there stands a huge landscape oil painting. He said, "I have only completed half of this oil painting so far." On the canvas, there were stacks of his recently completed or unfinished ink and wash landscape paintings, and two heavy colored landscape banners with a moist ink and wash atmosphere were spread on the ground. He explained, "This was something I only painted last night.". There is clearly a simple confidence and optimism hidden in him. Outside the studio, there is a spacious balcony. Standing on the balcony, one can gaze into the distance and see an endless range of high and low urban buildings. In the hazy and dense rain curtain, it is like a mirage in a dream. I don't know if at some point, Mr. Yang Yunqi, the painter, would stand here or sit on the balcony, quietly looking towards the distance, thinking about things from the depths of his soul. To this day, his main creative theme is painting Chinese landscapes, and he has never stopped moving forward. He searched for the direction of art in silence and enlightenment. When it comes to painting creation, Yang Yunqi finally stopped being reserved and silent, and suddenly spoke incessantly. A cheerful smile gradually appeared on his once rare smile. At this moment, he is real and transparent.

In order to learn the essence of traditional Chinese painting, he successively studied under famous landscape painter Mr. Bai Xueshi, calligrapher Mr. Li Duo from the Chinese Military Museum, and professor of military oil painting Mr. He Kongde, among others, and devoted himself to learning from the old gentlemen, hoping to continuously improve his deep understanding of art. In 2002, he settled in Chengdu. The southwestern region, a city full of rich artistic atmosphere, and the surrounding mountains and waters have given him more inspiration and inspiration. When painting gradually became his spiritual support through the trials of time, even though he encountered many obstacles and setbacks on the road of life, as long as he picked up the paintbrush and entered into creation, Yang Yunqi would feel the selflessness from the depths of his soul.
